Sri Sri Radha Shyamasundara Jiu – Sripat Khardaha
It is promised by Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu that He shall eternally reside in three sacred places. Among them is Sripat Khardaha, within the courtyard of Nityananda Prabhu — where the Deity established by Nityananda Prabhu, worshipped by His divine consort Sri Jahnava Mata and His son Sri Birbhadra Goswami, has been continuously adored and served for more than four and a half centuries — Sri Sri Radha Shyamasundara Jiu.

Although the Sankirtana traditionally refers to 108 Names (Ashtottara-Shatanam), the complete poetic composition expands beyond that number, reflecting Krishna’s diverse lilas, relationships, and theological dimensions.

At Shripat Khardaha, within the sacred courtyard of Sri Nityananda Prabhu, in the divine Deity of Sri Sri Radha Shyamasundara Jiu, devotees behold the transcendental presence of Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu along with His eternal associates. It is traditionally believed that Mahaprabhu promised to eternally reside in this sacred courtyard of Nityananda Prabhu until the end of Kali-yuga. After establishing this Deity, Nityananda Prabhu would personally behold within the form of Radha-Shyamasundara the living presence of Mahaprabhu Himself. It is also held in devotional tradition that Nityananda Prabhu became mystically unmanifest within a portion of this very Deity. Thus, at this sacred site, one experiences the simultaneous divine darshana and lila-sannidhya (spiritual presence) of three manifestations of the Lord.

Jaya Nitai Gaura Radhe Shyam Hare Krishna Hare Rama.

In the next part of this discussion, we shall turn our attention back to a remarkable moment in history—almost five centuries ago—when Sri Nityananda Prabhu established the sacred institution of Namahatta at Sripat Khardaha in present-day North 24 Parganas, on the outskirts of modern Kolkata, with the noble purpose of spreading the congregational chanting of the Holy Name (nama-sankirtana). Under the capable leadership of Sri Virabhadra Goswami, the illustrious son of Sri Nityananda Prabhu—revered in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition as the second manifestation of Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu—this movement of nama-sankirtana gradually expanded and flourished throughout Bengal. Within this sacred devotional current appeared the kirtan “Sri Krishna’s Ashtottara Shata Nama,” composed by Dvija Haridas. This remarkable composition is not merely a devotional song; it is a spiritual garland woven with priceless teachings on the true fulfillment of human life, the path of Krishna-bhakti, and the profound ideal of complete surrender (sharanagati) at the lotus feet of Sri Krishna. In the following section, we shall explore the historical background of this kirtan and examine how it gradually became a living vessel of Bengal’s Gaudiya Vaishnava folk tradition, carrying within it a vibrant stream of devotional culture that has continued to flow through the centuries.
